Postcards
Weekend before last, Ray and I visited upstate New York to attend his brother’s Air Force retirement ceremony. It was a good trip, worthy of several blog posts, but instead I will post two messages from old postcards that I saw on the trip.
From the Penny Postcard Arcade at the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse:
Dear Mrs. Ellis – Just a bit of news, at 6:00 P.M. your corner house, Mrs. Kelso’s place was on fire. The whole upstairs is destroyed. All the furniture out on the lawn. Hope you are well. Thressa
Dear Bert – If you don’t see me Thursday night down to the hall, don’t be mad will you? because I don’t feel very good now and I guess by Thursday I will be about dead. I got a nice cold and all my bones ache. With love. Anna
Luckily, I wrote all of my postcards before getting stuck overnight in Newark while trying to fly home, or my tone might have been more like that of the postcard writers above.
